The Story
Mohammad Shami was subjected to harassment by three unidentified youths recently in his hometown. The miscreants tried to drag Shami into a scuffle not once but twice. The fast bowler, who was accompanied by his wife, however, was not intimidated and forced the youngsters flee from the spot.
Police look into the matter
Jadavpur police is now looking into the matter and has conducted the arrest of the three youths. The incident happened late on Saturday night when the Shami was returning home to Katju Nagar situated close to close to South City Mall.
As far as the story goes, the trio came out of nowhere and started to abuse Shami after the cricketer stopped his car in front of the apartment gate and was waiting for the caretaker to clear the way to the garage. The youths were allegedly in an intoxicated condition and were riding a motorcycle and confronted Shami for parking his car on the road.
Trio break into the house
The matter turned serious when the youngsters assaulted the caretaker who intervened to break the argument. The caretaker forced them to vacate the place but they were not in the mood to lay their mischievous activities to rest. The three left the spot and returned 15 minutes later to barge into the building and allegedly break into the Shami’s apartment
Shami had no option but to call the cops for safety. Police have the footage from the CCTV cameras installed in the building as the evidence. The individuals were identified as Jayanta Sarkar, Swarup Sarkar and Shiva Pramanik, who runs a nearby salon.
“They have been booked under IPC sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 341 (wrongful restraint),” said a senior officer of Jadavpur police station.
