Three Indians included in James Franklin’s all Time XI
The former New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin has too joined the list of players who are now a day’s announcing their all time XI squad on the Lords official you tube channel. Franklin has selected quite a strong team as the team includes players who have already proved their worth at the international level. Interestingly the Indian batsman Rohit Sharma also finds a place in Franklin’s list. Rohit Sharma is himself not a permanent member of Test team and is on the verge of getting dropped from the team if he fails to deliver on the West Indies tour. Also preferring Rohit Sharma ahead of Virat Kohli is a big surprise in itself.
Franklin’s list includes 3 players who are presently part of Mumbai Indians and two players who have been part of the team in the past. Sachin Tendulkar is linked to Mumbai Indians as a consultant whereas Harbhajan Singh and Rohit Sharma are currently part of the Mumbai squad. Mitchell Johnson and Andrew Symonds are the players who have represented the franchise in past.
Franklin has included only those players who used to play during the time when he was active as an international cricketer.
The England Test captain Alastair Cook will open the innings for Franklin’s team whereas the former New Zealand player Nathan Astle will be his partner on the crease. Sachin Tendulkar who used to bat at number 2 or at number 4 will bat at number 3; following him will be the legend, Brian Lara.
Rohit is placed at number 5 on his list. Franklin gives an explanation putting Rohit at number 5 “I’ve gone with Rohit Sharma at number five. His record recently has been outstanding. Especially in one-day cricket, he is a devastating batsman.”
The controversial all-rounder Andrew Symonds finds his name on this list as he is the lone all-rounder in the team. The devastating opener and wicket-keeper batsman Brendon McCullum will come in at number 7. Now this is a strange call as McCullum has been quite successful for the New Zealand team as an opener.
The most successful off-spinner for the Indian team in Test cricket, Harbhajan Singh is the lone specialist spinner the team.
The pace bowling attack is packed up with the presence of some of the deadliest bowlers in world cricket. The trio of Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson and James Bond will oversee the pace attack. All of these three were the most feared bowlers of their time. Brett lee is most successful amongst these but no one can underestimate the power of other two as they both did not allow the batsman to open their arms at any moment of the game. All the three bowlers are the rare species of the bowlers that are difficult to find nowadays.
Franklin’s XI includes 3 players from India, 3 from New Zealand, 3 from Australia, 1 from England and one from West Indies.
The team includes all the players who have shown their calibre on the field during their playing days but still the inclusion of Rohit Sharma ahead of Virat Kohli is the biggest suspense of this story.
James Franklin’s All Time XI: Alastair Cook, Nathan Astle, Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Rohit Sharma, Andrew Symonds, Brendon McCullum (c & wk), Harbhajan Singh, Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson, Shane Bond
