The leading contender to take Ishant Sharma’s spot, Saini was already in the scheme of things and would have made it to the Test squad even with Ishant around but the senior’s absence has almost confirmed that he will be part of the Test squad.

An uncapped player in the longest format, Saini was a part of the Test squad for one-off Test against Afghanistan in 2018 but wasn’t handed a debut cap. He has established himself as one of the reliable pacers in white-ball cricket and is expected to emulate his performances in Test as well, if given a chance.
