How about a pace-bowling all-rounder? Since India will have three frontline pacers in form of Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami, it is unlikely that fourth pacer will get a chance. Shankar, who has been part of the Test squad in past, does hold an outside chance given New Zealand’s conditions.
Blackcaps have used Colin de Grandhomme quite effectively in the longest format and same could be the case with India if Shankar is selected. The 28-year-old has a good record in first-class cricket. He has scored 2168 runs and has scalped 32 wickets in 43 matches.
