ToggleTim David has finished the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as one of its most exciting players. The right-handed batsman was one of the very few positives for Mumbai Indians in an otherwise dismal campaign this year.
Mumbai Indians finished the ten-team competition at the bottom of the points table. The five-time IPL winners could manage to win only 4 of their 14 league games
But unlike Mumbai, David managed to impress one and all with his power hitting. The season, however, had not started on a good note for the Australian star. He was part of Mumbai’s first two games of the season.
In both the games, David failed to get going. In the first game against Delhi Capitals, he could manage to score only 1. In the following game which was against Rajasthan Royals, his performance was worse as he managed only 1.

Tim David’s stunning comeback:
Following Tim David’s failure in the first two games and the defeats in both those matches, Mumbai decided to drop the hard-hitting batsman from their playing eleven.
He was recalled into the team only after Mumbai lost their next six games and found themselves out of the playoffs race. Incidentally, his comeback game was against Royals and he made an instant impact.
The right-handed batsman slammed an unbeaten 20 off just 9 balls to help Mumbai beat Royals by 5 wickets and register their first win of the competition. From thereon, David did not look back and went on to play some stunning cameos to showcase his finishing skills.
In the following game against Gujarat Titans, he slammed 44 off just 21 balls before playing a knock of 46 off just 18 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad. His best performance of the season came in Mumbai’s last game which was against Delhi.
David played a stunning knock of 34 off just 11 balls to help Mumbai snatch a win from the jaws of defeat and finish the tournament on a high. The win also saw Mumbai dump Delhi out of IPL 2022.
Tim David equals Brendon McCullum’s record:
Thanks to his sensational batting in IPL 2022, Tim David has equalled a record that was achieved by only two batsmen in the 15 season of IPL so far. He has become only the third player to finish the league with a strike-rate of more than 200 (minimum 150 runs scored).
The other two batsmen who have achieved this feat are Brendon McCullum and Andre Russell. McCullum achieved the feat way back in 2008, the inaugural season of the tournament while Russell did it in 2019.

McCullum had scored 188 runs in 4 outings at a strike-rate of 204.34. On the other hand, Russell scored 510 runs in 14 games at an amazing strike-rate of 204.81.
Talking about David, he has the best strike-rate among the trio. He has finished the competition at a strike-rate of 216.3 after scoring 186 runs off just 86 balls this season.
