Glenn Maxwell and Joe Burns have been recalled to the Test side for the fourth and the final Test against South Africa.
The former played his last Test against Bangladesh before being ignored for Ashes Tests.
The latter played his last Test against South Africa in Hobart, following which national selectors made six changes in the squad and Joe was also ruled out.
They will replace David Warner and Cameron Bancroft, who will be sent home along with Steven Smith in next 24 hours.
Cricket Australia had already confirmed the addition of Matt Renshaw to the Tests side.
Maxwell, Burns and Renshaw will join the squad in next 24 hours while Smith, David Warner and Bancroft will fly back home during the same period.
Apart from announcing the replacement, James Sutherland also announced the decision of the Cricket Association to appoint Tim Paine as captain.
He took over the job from Smith during the fourth and eventual final day and don the captaincy hat for the first time, for a full Test match.
Tim Paine will become the 46th Test captain of Australia.
Though, it has not been confirmed whether he will continue to perform the job on a long-term basis or will CA look for another man for the job?
Reports had suggested that Mitchell Marsh is the front-runner to take up the job on a permanent basis.
Since Australia do not play a Test match for few months now, they have time to take a decision over Smith’s successor.
Meanwhile, Sutherland did not announce the punishment for the three players involved viz Smith, Warner and Bancroft.
An official decision over their punishment will be pronounced in next 24 hours.
As per the reports, the three players are in line to be banned for a period of one year.
It will effectively rule out Smith and Warner from IPL.
It has also been confirmed that Australia’s Head Coach, Darren Lehmann, had no role to play in the ‘Sandpaper Gate’.
Hence, he will continue with his job of Australia’s Head Coach.
