Tim Southee happy with his performance against SRH, defends his team’s loss
The 10 games have already finished in the Indian Premier League and the quality of cricket on offer has caught the imagination of many all over the world.
Two teams with not such a great start to the campaign went head to head yesterday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indian’s side fell to their 3rd defeat in four games after they managed just 142 runs in the first innings. Bandar Sran was in good form as he picked three wickets up while David Warner, the SRH skipper was sublime in the chase and scored an unbeaten 90 to see his team home.
This was their first victory of the tournament and it did not come easy.
New Zealand quickie Tim Southee had a great time with the ball in the second innings and made Hyderabad work hard for every run but was unfortunately on the losing end on the night.
He ended up with figures of 3/24 off his 4 overs with 11 dot balls as he gave Mumbai a glimmer of hope after disastrous batting innings.
The fast bowler spoke to the media after the game and revealed that it was heart breaking to be on the losing side after a good performance.
He went on to praise the home side who restricted the big boys from Mumbai and added that he was happy to contribute to the team with the ball.
The biggest mistake MI committed on the night was to send in-form Rohit Sharma at 2-down. He looked unsettled and lost his wicket early and the quickie was asked why the skipper took that decision.
He said that it was all about the mid-games and that the quality of players in the squad can allow the team to rotate the players.
He was also asked about the early wickets that his team lost in the first innings and Southee was quick to defend his players.
He said that the nature of the game and the squad meant that they would be aggressive tight from the start and that it looks good when it comes off and not so much on days like these.
He also went on to say that it was important for his team to push aside the loss in a tournament where they will once again play in two days time.
He insisted that it was important for his team to bounce back and that there was plenty of time left in the tournament to climb up the points table.
Here is the interview in full:
With Lasith Malinga out injured for the rest of the IPL, Southee will have a great responsibility on his shoulders to lead the attack for the Mumbai franchise.
