The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) in it’s reply to BCCI regarding the inclusion of outstation players in the second edition of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), has already mentioned that the outstation players are well in the rules to be in the draft, which will be held on June 23.
“The players who are part of the draft are TNCA registered players. If TNCA doesn’t have to get permission from BCCI for these players to feature in first division league, then why seek permission for TNPL? Also, there is a T20 tournament played between first division teams as well,’ a TNCA official told TOI.
The response from TNCA is absolutely correct which BCCI may find it difficult as a player playing in TNCA league is eligible to play in TNPL as well. Also, this is the first time when BCCI is stopping players from participating in leagues other than their state-owned once but this has not been the case every time.
For example, many of the players play DDCA league of Delhi. The league has seen players like Joginder Sharma (Haryana), Paras Dogra (Himachal Pradesh), Mayank Sidana (Punjab), Mayank Dagar (Himachal Pradesh) and many other players participating in various tournaments in Delhi but never ever BCCI had any objection and this is the second continues time when BCCI has asked TNCA not to include outstation players. Last year as well, BCCI did not allow the state board to include outstation players, which they accepted. However, they are keen to get big players in the league this time so as to attract more viewers.
BCCI is yet to react to the reply of TNCA but it will be interesting to see whether players themselves agree to play the league or not, after objection from BCCI. Though, any of the players are yet to back out from the players draft.
Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan, Yuzvendra Chahal are few of the marquee players who have registered for the league.
