Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) will introduce the new impact player and DRS for the seventh edition of the TNPL taking a cue from the Indian Premier League. TNPL is one of the most exciting and sought-after T20 tournaments in India and is scheduled to begin on June 12 in Coimbatore.
Many Talents like T. Natarajan, Washington Sundar, Sai Kishore, Sai Sudarshan, Shahrukh Khan, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sonu Yadav have emerged from Tamil Nadu through this league as they got the spotlight in the Indian Premier League, and the Indian team through this tournament in recent times.
TNPL governing committee has introduced the new impact player rule for this year along with the DRS for the first time in the state-level league, but the DRS cannot be used for the on-field wide and no-balls calls as it was used in the Indian Premier League. They will also be reserve days for all four knockout games as the TNPL 2022 was called off due to heavy rain with Lyca Kovai Kings and Chepauk Super Gillies sharing the trophy.
Speaking on the Press Conference TNCA official Dr.R.N. Baba confirmed that Chepauk will not host the TNPL matches as the floodlights will undergo renovations for the much-anticipated ODI World Cup later this year. It is widely that Chepauk holds a chance to host one of the India-Australia or India-Pakistan games in the World Cup.

For the last six seasons, the draft method was used to pick the players. Ahead of this year’s edition, the TNPL Governing council decided to introduce the auction in which Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan become the most expensive player in the auction as he was picked for 21.6 lakhs by Lyca Kovai Kings.
IPL stars Sai Sudharshan, Vijay Shankar, Sai Kishore, Varun Chakravarthy, T Natarajan, and Shahrukh Khan will be in action in this edition of the TNPL along with Indian Veteran Ravichandran Ashwin who will join his team Dindigul Dragons after the World Test Championship final.
TNPL 2023 will begin on Monday, June 12, and the first match of the season will see joint defending champions Lyca Kovai Kings taking on Idream Tiruppur Tamizhans in Coimbatore. Dindigul Dragons will kick start their campaign against the new entrants Ballsy Trichy on June 14.
A total of 27 group-stage matches will be played across four venues – Coimbatore, Dindigul, Salem, and Tirunelveli. The TNPL 2023 playoffs will be played on July 7, 8, and 10, with the final scheduled to be played on July 12.
