TNPL To Conduct First Draft Sans Outstation Players, Seeks BCCI Reply

Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) is all set to conduct its TNPL draft for the second edition of the tournament sans the name of outstation players on the list.

Earlier, TNCA has already indicated that they would go forward and would include names of outstation players but a reply from BCCI hindered their quest to do so.

However, the state board have again cited that many of the international cricketers play different leagues in the country, approved by BCCI. As reported on Thursday, apart from Karnataka Premier League and Uttarakhand Premier League, players also play DDCA league and other tournaments in Delhi, which TNCA has cited in their defence ahead of BCCI.

The board is still awaiting a confirmation from BCCI and they have decided to conduct the auction for outstation players either on June 30 or July 1. Still, the event happening totally depends upon reply they get from the apex board.

A total of 88 players including likes of Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan, Piyush Chawla and many other players have registered themselves for the auction. Only 24 of the 88 players will get a bidder in the auction, as a franchise is allowed to purchase only three outstation players, with only two of them getting a place in the playing XI.

In Friday’s auction, only the new players on the roster and the released players will go under the hammer, to be snared by eight teams.

The second edition of TNPL is all set to kick off on July 22. Players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Murali Vijay, Abhinav Mukund, Dinesh Karthik, Baba Aprajith, Baba Indrajith and the Vijay Hazare winning captain Vijay Shankar will all be in action in the T20 league. However, Ashwin’s, Vijay’s and Mukund’s appearance may be curtailed due to international assignments.
