The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) deadline has culminated on July 30 for head coach and support staff posts, which had already seen over 2000 applications for the coaching staff posts. Meanwhile, the five applicants are capable of replacing Ravi Shastri.

Meanwhile, many are hopeful that Shastri will be reappointed as a chief coach. However, some of the cricketing pundits believe that there is a need for the change of guard.

Besides, some international stars have the potential to claim the top-brass post.

Following semi-final loss to New Zealand at the World Cup, India had faced criticism for their debacle in the knockout stage at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Apart from the head coach, the Board had already received hundreds of applications for the support staff which stands now closed.

Furthermore, the interviews of the applicants will be conducted in the latter half of August.

Concurrently, Shastri is enjoying a 45-day extension post World Cup along with batting, bowling and fielding coach respectively. Sanjay Bangar, Bharat Arun and R. Sridhar are accompanying Shastri for the impending Caribbean tour which will commence with the 1st T20I of the three-match series on August 3 at Lauderhill Florida.

Also, the experts had recorded mixed reaction regarding the head coach as Shastri, including support staff, will automatically enter the procedure for the posts.

Recently, Team India skipper Virat Kohli had thrown support behind Shastri.

So far, Australia-based Tom Moody has been unlucky after applying for Team India’s coach since 2005. Back then, Greg Chappell became India’s chief coach. Also, in 2017, Moody had applied for the position of head coach, but he had lost to Ravi Shastri.

Now, Moody has a wealth of experience on his back. The reports emerged that Moody had applied for the chief coach job after serving Indian Premier League franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad. Also, he had coached Sri Lanka before leading them to the finale of the 2007 World Cup.

Moody had a stint with Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

The 53-year-old veteran had served as the Director of Cricket for the Big Bash League franchise Melbourne Renegades.

All in all, he is one of the potential contenders who could replace Shastri at the helm.
