Bowlers who are fastest to reach 200 wickets mark in Test cricket
Ishant Sharma has become the fourth Indian bowlers to take 200 wickets. During the third and final Test at Colombo, Ishant picked up the wicket of Angelo Mathews, who scored a brave hundred and tried to reach impossible on a bowling friendly pitch at SSC.
India needed the wicket of Mathews who frustrated Indian bowlers. Ishant with the new ball in the hand trapped Mathews, the lone warrior, with a straight full-length ball that beat Mathews with the speed. As Mathews departed, the last three Sri Lankan wickets were shared by Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra.
Ishant took 65 matches to enter the elite list of bowlers with 200 wickets.
Clarrie Grimmett of Australia tops the list of TOP 10 bowlers to reach the 200 mark the fastest in just 36 matches. He used to play in an era where there was a scarcity of world-class spinners, Grimmett was one of the first bowlers to master the googly and the flipper for a leg spinner. He played 37 Tests for Australia, picking up 216 wickets at an average of 24.21.
The list is demonstrated by other three Australian bowlers. Among them, Dennis Lillee stands jointly second with Waqar Younis of Pakistan as they both reached the mark in 200 matches.
