The West Indies cricketer was the most destructive batsman of his generation. He has won two World Cups with West Indies. So to acknowledge his contribution to the game his country Antigua named the premier cricket stadium after him. During the 2007 World Cup in West Indies many cricket stadium renovated. Among them, one was Vivian Richards Stadium. The decision to replace popular and atmospheric Antigua Recreation Ground with Antigua’s premier venue was far from the popular one.
The ground has problems from the beginning. The access is remote, even when the crowd at the stadium is low people find difficult to enter the ground. Locals were also reluctant to embrace the new one as it was located at a remote place that meant attendance was poor.
