Top 10 Highest Run-Chases In Test Cricket
Today, we present to you the Top 10 highest run chases in tests.

Hi folks! We all have a fancy for statistics, don’t we? Don’t you constantly keep an eye on the ICC rankings to see whether our very own Virat is at the top of the pile among ODI batsmen, or whether Ravindra Jadeja is among the best all-rounders in the world? To satiate our hunger for these statistics, SPORTZWIKI presents to you an all-new section ‘STATS’ in which we would cover the most interesting stats in the cricketing world.

Batting in the 4th innings is the ultimate test for any test match batsman. Composure, concentration levels, character comes through as the batsmen have to negotiate a 4th day or a 5th day wicket. Let’s take a look at the teams who have engineered the highest run chases in test matches in SPORTZWIKI’s Top 10 highest run chases in tests.

10. West Indies (344-1)

At Lord’s in 1984, the dominant West Indian side of the 80s made light work of a potentially tricky chase, reaching 344 having lost just a single wicket. The run rate was an exceptional 5.19, earning the West Indies the 10th spot in SPORTZWIKI’s Top 10 highest run chases in tests.

9. West Indies (348-5)

West Indies achieved a target of 348 having lost only 5 wickets against New Zealand at Auckland in the summer of 1969, to complete what was then the second highest chase in test match cricket.

8. Sri Lanka (352-9)

The island nation achieved their highest ever run-chase when they gunned down South Africa‘s 3rd innings lead with a valiant reply of 352 for 9. This fantastic effort from Kumar Sangakkara and co. earns them the 8th position in SPORTZWIKI’s Top 10 highest run chases in tests.

7. Australia (362-7)

The Aussies have completed a few daunting chases in their history, and 362 for 7 against West Indies at Georgetown ranks as their third highest ever, and the 7th best overall in SPORTZWIKI’s Top 10 highest run chases in tests.

6. Australia (369-6)

Australia’s 369 for 6 against an extremely strong Pakistan outfit at Hobart in 1999 ranks as the 6th highest chase ever in test matches, the key architects of the victory were Justin Langer and Adam Gilchrist with their terrific centuries.

5. India (387-4)

India’s 387 for 4 against England just a few days after the Mumbai attacks was a joyous sight for the nation in more ways than one. Yuvraj Singh, who came in place of the retired Sourav Ganguly, smashed an unbeaten 85 while Sachin Tendulkar scored 103 not out to take India home.

4. Australia (404-3)

The great Don Bradman scored an unbeaten 173 to set Australia on their way to their target of 404 runs with seven wickets in the bank. The other centurion was Arthur Morris with a sensational 182 to help Australia achieve what is currently the 4th highest chase ever in test matches.

3. India (406-4)

Centuries from the prolific Sunil Gavaskar and the dependable GR Vishwanath helped India achieve a traget of 403 against the West Indies at Port of Spain in 1976. This chase earns the 3rd spot in SPORTZWIKI’s Top 10 highest run chases in tests.
