1) New Zealand – 347/4 v USA

The 2nd match of the ‘Pool A’ during the 2004 edition saw New Zealand a complete mockery of the associates the USA. The Blackcaps seemed in no mood to spare the inexperienced USA bowling attack and registered 347/4 after being put to bat first by the opposition. After an ordinary start, where they lost opener Stephen Fleming and no. 3 Hamish Marshall for cheap scores, Nathan Astle (145 from 151 balls) and Scott Styris (75 from 78 balls) took charge and put New Zealand in full control. The duo added 163 runs for the 3rd wicket before Styris departed. The final throttle was provided by Craig McMillan, an all-rounder, who took advantage of the platform to hit a quick unbeaten 64 off just 27 balls. Astle remained unbeaten at the other end as the Kiwis ended with a highly formidable total on the board.
