Australia vs South Africa – ICC World Cup 1999, Semi-final at Edgbaston:

Back on 17th of June 1999, Australia faced South Africa in the semi-final of the eighth edition of the World Cup. The epic contest ended in a tie as Australia had made it to the final on the basis of superior head-to-head record.
During the second semi-final of the 1999 World Cup after asking Australia to bat first, the Proteas bowlers had given everything to make things possible.
On a bowling-friendly surface, Australia had managed to score 213 with Michael Bevan and Steve Waugh recording a half-century each. Well, in response, the Proteas were in all sorts of bother when they were reeling at 61 for four.
However, South African veteran Jacques Kallis and Jonty Rhodes had recorded a solid partnership to take the target down to 39 off 31 deliveries.
In the thrilling game, Proteas required nine runs when Lance Klusenar was batting who later on made blunder after slamming two boundaries on the bowling of Damien Fleming. He further saw Allan Donald almost getting run out after backing up Klusenar.
After miscuing the shot to mid-wicket, Klusenar scampered for a risky run when Donald was watching the ball before running towards the striker’s end. Thus Australia got the easiest of the run-outs to make it to the finale.
The result was decided based on the head-to-head result when Aussies rode on Steve Waugh excellent ton to thrash the Proteas in Super Six stage.
