Sanath Jayasuriya started his career as a left arm spinner batting at No-8. His promotion to the opening slot to take advantage of the fielding restrictions with the hopes of 20-30 quick runs. This was the turning point in Sri Lankan cricket. He far exceeded the expectations with 13000 runs in ODI cricket and became one of the greatest opening batsmen of all times.
