Top 10 players with most sixes in ODI history

Cricket is always entertaining when the batsman goes for the big hits, which is why T20 Cricket has got so many fans around the world. It takes a lot of skill and power for a batsman to clear the rope. Not many can do it at will and here we look at 10 players who have hit most sixes than everyone else in ODI history.

10. Yuvraj Singh- 155 sixes

India’s greatest match winner Yuvraj Singh is one of the sweetest timers in ODI cricket. The elegant left hander has made a reentry into the Indian national team and looks set to play 2019 World Cup if he continues to go on.

He has managed an impressive 155 sixes in his ODI career so far and could only move further up the charts in the coming years.

9. Ricky Ponting – 162 sixes

One of the finest ever to play for Cricket Australia, Ricky Ponting has made batting look so easy at times. The former Australian skipper who plays at No.3 often drives the innings with his aggression measured with composure. The Tasmanian has scored 162 sixes in the 375 ODIs he has played in his career.

8. Sourav Ganguly – 190 sixes

Former Indian captain and one of the greatest ODI players of all-time, Sourav Ganguly is the power hitter for India once he gets going. “Dada” as called by the Indian cricket fans has the ability to dictate even the world’s best spinners as he literally murdered spinners and cleared the fence with ease. During his incredible career, Ganguly managed to hit 190 sixes in 311 matches.

7. AB de Villiers – 194 sixes

The South African batsman has revolutionized the game is a very short description to tell the impact he had with his batting. He brought a whole new level of innovation to the game and has played some jaw-dropping shots for boundaries. He still has a lot of playing days left in him and him already has 194 sixes to his name.

6. Sachin Tendulkar – 195 sixes

 

There would not be many batting records without the name of Sachin Tendulkar in it. The master has carried Indian batting on his own during the mid-1990s and has shown the world why he was the best amongst the rest.

Sachin has scored 195 sixes, most by an Indian till date in his illustrious career in which he played 463 ODIs.

5. Brendon McCullum – 200 Sixes

The most devastating batsman New Zealand ever had, Brendon McCullum has been a star since the T20 cricket was invented. His innovation has helped him create some unique records to him and has brought him into the limelight.

The now-retired cricketer has hit 200 sixes in 260 ODI matches he played for New Zealand.

4. MS Dhoni – 208 sixes

Current Indian captain, MS Dhoni has redefined the role of finisher with his unbelievable composure in pressure situations as he backs himself to clear the rope with ease. Dhoni who has started his career in 2004 has made the difference with his immense hitting as he steered India to many victories over the years. MS Dhoni has 208 sixes to his name in 278 matches.

3. Chris Gayle – 238 sixes

One of the best power hitters the world has ever seen, Chris Gayle tops any list that deals with sixes. He is truly a six machine and can take any bowler for cleaners. The Jamaican has scored 238 sixes in 269 ODIs he played for West Indies.

2. Sanath Jayasuriya – 270 sixes

Sanath Jayasuriya has changed the way opening batting was played, he has shown the world how devastating an opener can be. The player has played a very important role in the rise of Sri Lankan cricket over the years before retiring. He has scored 270 sixes from 445 matches he played in.

1. Shahid Afridi – 351 sixes

Shahid Afridi has arrived at the international arena with a bang as he scored the fastest century in cricket history in 1996. The player was known for his big blows despite his inconsistency which made fans call him “Boom Boom” Afridi.

Afridi has managed to hit 351 sixes in the 398 matches he featured for Pakistan.
