The above table shows the list of players who played the longest innings in terms of time spent . Hanif Mohammad tops this list. He spent 970 minutes on the crease on 17th January 1958 , when he scored 337 runs against West Indies. 2nd on the list is Garry Kirsten, who played an uncharecteristic innings against England on 26th December, 1999. He was an attacking batsman , who curbed his natural instincts for the team’s cause and played a relatively slow innings of 275 runs, spending 878 minutes. 3rd on the list Sri Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasuriya who spent 799 minutes on the crease while Sri Lanka posted a record score against India . He scored 340 runs on his way.
The list also features Hashim Amla , who spent 790 minutes against England on 19th July , 2012 at The Oval. Brian Lara is the only batsman who have featured twice on this list and both were record breaking innings. First , he scored 375 runs and spent 766 minutes to break Garry Sober’s record of the highest Test innings. This record was later broken by Matthew Hayden. Lara returned back with a score of 400 againt England , spending 778 minutes on th crease.
The latest one on this list is Brendon McCullum, who scored a triple century against India on 14th Feb, 2014.
