In the IPL the batsmen like Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, and Gayle have dominated the leading run scorer list. It is a format where the batsmen hit fours and sixes with ease and score runs for fun. But there are bowlers who have done well in the past 7 seasons of this tournament.

Here we look at the Top 10 Wicket takers in IPL history –

1. Lasith Malinga –

Lasith Malinga is the leading wicket taker in IPL history having played 83 matches from the period of 2009-2014. He has played for Mumbai Indians from the start of his IPL career. He has picked up 119 wickets with a best of 5/13. He has an economy of 6.53. He has picked 5 wickets in an innings once and 4 wickets three times. He bowls at the start of the innings and also at the death overs. He mixes up his bowling with slower deliveries with his main armor of yorkers which the batsmen just do not seem to have an answer for.

2. Amit Mishra –

Amit Mishra is the second leading wicket taker in IPL. He has played 86 matches in total from 2008-2014. He has played for 3 different franchises called Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has picked 102 wickets with the best of 5/17. He has an economy of 7.19. He has picked 5 wickets once and 4 wickets twice. He has picked hat-trick three times in the IPL. He has all the tricks in his armor and uses him very well. 

3. Piyush Chawla –

Piyush Chawla is the third leading wicket taker in IPL. He has played 98 matches in total from 2008-2014. He has played for 2 different franchises – Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders. He has picked 98 wickets with the best of 4/17. He has an economy of 7.54. He is member of the team who has won the IPL 2014 trophy.

4.  Harbhajan Singh –

Harbhajan Singh is the fourth leading wicket taker in IPL. He has played 96 matches from the start. He has played for Mumbai Indians. He has picked 92 wickets with the best of 5/18. He has an economy of 6.71. He has picked 5 wickets once and 4 wickets once. He has been the leading spinner of Mumbai Indians and has done the job very well.

5.  R Vinay Kumar –

R Vinay Kumar is the fifth leading wicket taker in IPL. He has played 86 matches from 2008-2014. He has played for 3 different franchises called Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders. He has picked 91 wickets with the best of 4/41. He has an economy of 8.28. He is an excellent bowler at start and can be good bowler for the team in the death overs too.

6.  Dale Steyn –

Dale Styen is the sixth leading wicket taker in IPL. He has played 89 matches from 2008-2014. He has too has played for 3 different franchises called Royal Challengers Bangalore, Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has picked 89 wickets with the best 3/8. He has an economy of 6.58. He bowls with pace and creates swing which can be testing for any top order batsmen in the World.

7. Pragyan Ojha –

Pragyan Ojha is the 7th leading wicket taker in IPL. He has played 91 matches from 2008-2014. He has too played for 2 different franchise called Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians. He has picked 89 wickets also with the best of 3/11. He has an economy of 7.34. He bowls with flight and just creates doubts in the minds of the batsmen.

8. RP Singh –

RP Singh is the 8th leading wicket taker in IPL. He has played 78 matches from 2008-2013. He has played for 4 different franchises called Deccan Chargers, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has picked 87 wickets with the best of 4/22. He has an economy of 7.84. He has picked 4 wickets twice.

  1.  R Ashwin –

R Ashwin is the 9th leading wicket taker in IPL. He has played 83 matches from 2009-2014. He has played for Chennai Super Kings since the start of IPL. He has picked up 80 wickets with the best of 3/16. He has an economy of 6.53. Ashwin has become the main to main for MS Dhoni. He can bowl at the start and also in middle over’s to pick crucial wickets. He bowls some good balls and deceives the batsmen with flight.

10. Albie Morkel –

Albie Morkel is the 10th leading wicket taker in IPL. He has played 85 matches from 2008-2014. He has too played for 2 different franchises called Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings. He has picked 80 wickets with the best of 4/32. He has an economy of 8.08. He lacks the pace but can do the job. He has picked 4 wickets once. He knows his limitations and bowls stump to stump.
