Alastair Cook (294)
In 2011 Alastair Cook was going through a subdued season with the bat and his woeful performance against India in the first two tests didn’t do him any good. He had to make a statement ahead of the third Test to keep his spot and answer his critics. India were called in to bat and were bundled out for 224, in response, the English openers Strauss and Cook put up a fine opening partnership but Strauss soon departed while Cook looked in complete control hammering the Indian bowling with ease as he marched on.
He was given company by Morgan and Bresnan, in the end in order to accelerate, he fell to an uncharacteristic shot on 294. Sadly Cook was six runs short of what could have been the 6th triple hundred scored by an English batsman.
