Aravinda De Silva’s 146 at Colombo in 1997
Sri Lanka’s 1997 home series against India took the Test cricket to another level. It was the series remembered for Aravinda De Silva’s magnificent display. The man from Colombo was known to dismantle bowlers in any format, and he did that in style against his favourite opposition in 1997. In the 2nd Test against India where Sanath Jayasuriya and Marvan Atapattu failed to deliver while opening, De Silva came as a blessing for his team as he scored 146 runs with the help of 20 boundaries. His contribution took his team to a decent total of 332 in the first innings.
On the other side, India replied with a bang as fans got to see the centuries from Tendulkar and Ganguly. In the second innings, De Silva continued his solidity and scored another century. The match eventually ended in a draw but will always be remembered for De Silva’s solid show.
