Sanath Jayasuriya’s 340 at Colombo in 1997
It was the first Test and India was in the driver’s seat after their first innings’ success with 537 runs on the cards. The tons from Tendulkar and Azharuddin almost snatched the game away from the Lankans, but Sanath Jayasuriya had some other plans. The southpaw started steadily and went on to score a superb triple century in the first innings, thus ended India’s dream of winning the Test match. Sri Lanka put up a highest-ever total of 952 runs in the first innings and didn’t let India bat again. The encounter ended in a draw with Jayasuriya taking all the credits from the cricket fans. He also won the Player of the Series award for his exceptional show in the series.
