2. Harbhajan Singh’s hat-trick against Australia, 2001:

Top 5 bowling spells by Indians in Test cricket 2

The historic Test in Kolkata in 2001, saw Harbhajan Singh becoming the first Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in Tests. But his hat-trick could not stop Australia from making a big score as they posted 445. His victims were Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Shane Warne. The match also saw him taking his first five-wicket haul in Tests, having earlier dismissed Matthew Hayden and Mark Waugh.

In reply, India could score only 171. Trailing by 274, India lost 4 wickets for only 115 and were staring down the barrel. A 117-runs partnership between Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman steadied the ship before a mammoth 376 runs partnership between the latter and Rahul Dravid helped  India to post 657. Chasing 384 runs to win, Australia were in a comfortable position at 116 for 2. But Harbhajan once again starred with the ball and took 6 wickets to seal a memorable win for the Indian team.
