Ravi Shastri: 
The former Indian captain has taken over the Indian team’s responsibility as a team director in August 2014. A team back then were struggling in England due to lack of confidence. Shastri helped them to gain the confidence. As he took over the reins, Indian team started producing good results. After the England series, India visited Australia where India conceded a good chance to draw the four-match Test series. India lost the series 2-0. But the series could have been a 1-1 draw as India lost the first Test at Adelaide from the jaws of victory. India have lost the match by 48 runs. Virat Kohli scored a brilliant hundred. But after his departure, Indian team collapsed like a pack of cards. Murali Vijay, who was playing well, too went soon.
However, in the 2015 World Cup India bounce back. The winner of 2011 World Cup reached the semifinal but lost to Australia. After the series, India went to play the Asia Cup T20 under Ravi Shastri where India emerged champion. At World T20 at home, India played great cricket. Under the captaincy of MS , home India reached the semi-final of the WT20, but Virat Kohli’s 89 was not enough. India’s score was chased down by the West Indies, who were the eventual champion.
Shastri knew that he would be the next coach but Kumble’s last minute entry into the fray has changed the equation. With a set team who were familiar with their director team, India could have been successful in overseas tournaments too.
