Indian cricket fans can never forget the late 1990s match-fixing saga when some renowned cricketers were banned from playing cricket. The condition was so dreadful that every cricket lover was hoping to revive this religion (cricket) in the country once again. Cricket fans’ prayers were successful as the man, who came forward to eliminate these sorrows was none other than the legendary ‘Sourav Ganguly.’
The BCCI handed over the captaincy to ‘Bengal Tiger’ Sourav Ganguly, who happily accepted the offer. He gave his best and was successful in helping Indian Cricket touch new heights. Indian cricket changed from there onwards when they beat Australia at home.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni might be India’s most successful skipper now but Ganguly’s era was full of epic moments that are hard to forget for any of the cricket fans. Dada still tops the list when it comes to India’s overseas Test victories. Let us showcase you some of Dada’s historic moments as captain:
NatWest Series 2002
2002 NatWest Tri-Series Final would surely be on the list of every Indian Cricket fan in terms of India’s best ODI matches. The way Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh batted was exceptional as the duo was successful in giving their nation a moment they could cherish, always. But one man stands above them all, i.e. Sourav Ganguly. No one can forget his way of celebration at Lord’s balcony when he took his shirt off and swung it in front of everyone.
Dada took perfect revenge of Andrew Flintoff’s celebration at the Wankhede Stadium a few months before this series. Sourav Ganguly must have been happy to lift the NatWest Trophy in 2002 as it was one of his memorable ODI victories outside India.
