In the Indian Premier League season 8 there were some great performances from individuals both national and international players either with the bat, ball or fielding. Some of them contributed in more than one field. In the IPL 8 auctions the franchises bought some great players based on their reputations and past performances. Unfortunately some of them did not live up to the expectations or the value the franchises had to pay for acquiring them.

Here is the list of the Top-5 Big name flops of IPL 8 –

1. Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh, one of the greatest players for India, was bought for 16 crores in the auctions by Delhi Daredevils. He scored just 248 runs in 13 innings. He scored 2 half centuries in the tournament and did not do much with his spin bowling. His fielding was also a poor shadow of what he is known for. His poor contribution in all fields was one of the reasons that Delhi Daredevils finished 7th in the points table.

In IPL 7, he played for RCB with a price tag of 14 Crore with an average performance. Yuvraj Singh has been consistent performer for team India especially in the World Cup 2011 but did not live up to expectations in this IPL edition.

2. Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell was the key performer for Kings XI Punjab last year when they reached the IPL finals. He was retained by Kings XI Punjab in this year’s IPL. In 2015, he scored 145 runs in 11 innings not scoring even a single fifty. He was one of the top contributors for Australian team in the World Cup 2015. Maxwell’s poor contribution for Kings XI Punjab was the key reason for Kings XI Punjab finishing last this season.

3. Dale Steyn

Dale Steyn is one of the prime bowlers for South Africa in international cricket and recently concluded world cup 2015. He was yet another player who was not at his best in IPL-8. He played for Sunrisers Hyderabad but his bowling went for too many runs. He picked up wickets but was very expensive. When the team needed him he was not able to deliver. He was not even a regular among playing 11 for Sunrisers.

4. Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag, the explosive batsmen for India in yester years and IPL 2014, did not contribute at all this time around. Last year, he and Manan Vohra gave the team quick starts and laid the foundation for team to build huge scores. But this year, Virender Sehwag scored just 99 runs in 8 matches and was not a regular starter particularly in the latter half of the tournament. His contributions did not help Kings XI Punjab to perform and they need to look at a better combination for next year.

5. Angelo Mathews

Angelo Mathews the Sri Lankan captain was bought for 7.5 Crores by Delhi Daredevils in IPL 8. Delhi needed him to contribute with the bat and ball. He scored 144 runs in 11 matches and also picked up just 7 wickets only. His poor performance among international players doomed the chances of Delhi Daredevils to miss the playoffs. Angelo Mathews needed to contribute in all three areas of batting, bowling and fielding but he could not.
