At number two in the list of Top 5 Highest Opening Partnerships In ODI are Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya.
Tharanga has made it to the list again albeit with a different partner – Sanath Jayasuriya. England must have thought they would end up on the winning side after scoring 321 at Headingley. However, Tharanga and Jayasuriya had some other plans. The duo added a world record opening partnership of 286 runs in just 31.5 overs to dash the hosts’ hopes.
Jayasuriya starred with the bat, slamming 152 not out off just 99 balls while Tharanga scored 109. As a result, Sri Lanka chased down 322 with 8 wickets and 75 balls to spare.
