5. Sunil Gavaskar – 472 balls v England- 1981, Bengaluru:

The former India skipper had become the first Indian to cross the 450-ball mark in the longest format of the game when he faced 472 balls to score 172 against England at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in 1981.
Batting first, England rode on half-centuries from Graham Gooch, David Gower, Ian Botham and Graham Dilley to post 400. In reply, the hosts led by Gavaskar’s 172 scored 428. The match ended in a draw following the visitors’ declaration in 174 for 3.
