4. Ravi Shastri – 477 balls v Australia – 1992, Sydney:

The Test will be best remembered for legendary spinner Shane Warne’s debut but it was Ravi Shastri who grabbed all the headlines for his meticulous innings of 206 runs at Sydney’s famous ground. After Australia scored 313, India were under pressure straightaway when Navjot Singh Sidhu departed for a duck but Shastri’s monumental knock and a sublime 148-run knock from a young Sachin Tendulkar helped India to post a massive 483.
Shastri’s 206 runs came off 477 balls and made him the first Indian to register a double-century against Australia in Australia. Rain played a spoilsport for the most part of the Test match, and although the hosts were eight down for just 173 on the board in the second innings the Test ended in a tame draw.
