The former India captain came agonisingly close to becoming the first Indian to face 500 balls in a Test innings when he had faced 494 balls in the third Test against Pakistan but his hopes ended in a dramatic manner when he was bowled by part time spinner Imran Farhat.
His monumental 270-run knock, nevertheless, set India on the path of a famous victory as the visitors thrashed Inzamam-ul-Haq & Co. by an innings and 131 runs to clinch the series 2-1.
