World Cup 2015 : Top 5 lowest team totals

In the previous article we saw some teams with 5 highest totals, now we see the associate nations like Scotland, Afghanstan , UAE who have secured low totals against top quality sides which was on expected lines, as top team were weak against top quality side.

Here we look at the top 5 lowest totals in World Cup 2015:

1. India vs UAE

It was the lowest score of the tournament. UAE won the toss and elected to bat. This match was played at Perth on 28^th  February.  The UAE batsmen were not able to handle the pace of Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohit Sharma and the spin of Ashwin. It was an excellent bowling display by the Indian bowlers but due to lack of experience UAE was not able to handle. UAE were bowled out for 102 runs. India chased down the score with ease.

2. England vs New Zealand

England’s paltry total of 122 was the second lowest total in the tournament. England won the toss and elected to bat. This match was played at Wellington on the 20^th February England began off well in the innings but the spell of Southee picking 7/33 just changed the momentum of the match and England was bowled out for a paltry 123. Southee bowled at pace and just rattled the England batsmen. The home team just chased down the target in 12.2 over’s

3. Scotland vs Australia

This is another low scoring match. This match was played at Hobart on the 14^th March. Australia won the toss and elected to field. Australia picked wickets early and did not allow the Scotland batsmen to settle. The pacers bowled exceptionally well. In this match Starc was the leading wicket taker with 4 wickets, Cummins 3, Watson 1, Maxwell 1 and Johnson 1. Scotland were bowled out for 130 runs which Australia chased down in 15.2 over’s.

4.  Afghanistan vs Australia

This is another low scoring match. This match was played at Perth on 4^th March. While chasing a massive score of 417 runs Afghanistan were never in the match. Only Nawroz Mangal showed some resistance scoring 33 runs playing only 37.3 over’s. The pick of bowlers was Mitchell Johnson picking 4 wickets, Starc 2, Hazelwood 2, Maxwell 1 and Clarke 1. Australia won this game by a huge margin of 275 runs.   

5.  New Zeleand vs Scotland

It was another low scoring match. This match was played at Dunedin on 17^th February. New Zealand won the toss and elected to field. Tim Southee and Trent Boult were at his lethal best picking wickets at start. Then Vettori (3) and Corey Anderson (3) wickets each restricted to a very low total of 142 playing only 36.2 over’s. NewZeleand won that match by 3 wickets only.
