This match holds a special place in New Zealand’s cricket history as it was their first victory in India and one of their only two Test wins in the Asian country.Batting first, the visitors put up a good fight and scored 319 against the likes of Erapalli Prasanna, Bishan Bedi and S Venkataraghavan on a turning pitch. Left-arm spinner Hedley Howarth then produced a stunning performance to help his team dismiss the hosts for only 257 runs. New Zealand then set India a competitive target of 277 runs but the hosts batted poorly and were all out for only 109 runs.
