5. T20 World Cup 2009 fiasco with Sehwag: Top 5 MS Dhoni controversies
Even before the 2009 edition of the ICC World T20 commenced, it was already marred with a controversy. India, under the leadership of Dhoni went in to the World Cup as the defending champions, and were already among the favourites for the 2009 edition. The T20 World Cup was just a couple of weeks after the grueling IPL, which was played in South Africa. During the IPL, India’s most lethal weapon, Virender Sehwag got injured, but didn’t make anyone within the Indian camp aware about his injury. As the World Cup approached, Sehwag’s injury worsened, which ruled him out. This didn’t go down to well with Dhoni, who according to reports had a rift with Sehwag and some other members of the BCCI. Dhoni was livid as Sehwag played in the IPL despite being injured. Dhoni though, refused about having any such rift.
