6. Yusuf Pathan: 105 against South Africa, 2011

Top 5 ODI centuries in a losing cause 2

Probably one of the best overseas century by an Indian batsman, but unfortunately the knock  went in vain. The knock came in the final match of the five-match ODI series in South Africa in 2011. After posting a total of 250 , South Africa had India in all sorts of trouble as they reduced India to 60 for 5 in the twelfth over.

Coming in to bat at that stage, Pathan changed the face of the game with his brilliant batting. Spinners or pacers – all were sent across the park.  He forged a 100-run ninth wicket stand with Zaheer Khan bringing down the escalating run rate to run-a-ball. But a lofted shot off paceman Morne Morkel ended his 105-run innings that was decorated with eight sixes and an equal number of fours.
