The former Australian skipper holds the second position in the top run-getters of the World Cup history. In 42 innings, Ponting had made an aggregate of 1743 runs with a strike rate of 79.95. He had scored his runs at an average of 45.97 which is second lowest in the list of the top five.

The Australian stalwart had lifted up the two of the three World Cups as a captain of the side. Ponting had scored a match-winning knock of unbeaten 140 runs against India in the 2003 World Cup.

Ponting has five centuries, the joint second most in the quadrennial event, and six half-centuries to his name.
