The first ever Nepali cricketer to ever get drafted in an IPL auction, Lamichchane is set to ply his trade with Delhi Daredevils this season.
The 17-year old leg spinner who has already won two junior world cups so far in his career is considered as one of the best prospects of the future in cricket.
The youngster has started his practice with the Delhi Daredevils squad and had endured a tough start to his preparations as he was dispatched to the stands numerous times, in a training session under the watchful eyes of coach Ricky Ponting.
The second training session of Delhi Daredevils saw Lamichchane as the only foreign player in the camp. However, his close connections with Indian youngsters had made things much easier for the leg-spinner.
“He does not have the experience, but his game sense and his reading of players and the situation around during a match is brilliant. He is one of the smartest kids we have, and I am sure he will justify his selection,” a senior DD official said.
Lamichchane had played against the likes of Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan in the past in junior competitions for a couple of years. But he suffered a lot while bowling to both Rishabh Pant and Vijay Shankar in the nets. However, he refrained from letting go and continued bowling and will only get better shortly.
Ricky Ponting was also caught giving some tips to the dinner, which will help Lamichchane well. On the other hand, an injured Mohammad Shami is expected to join the training camp in the coming days. The Indian pacer had suffered injuries in a car accident and is currently recovering.
Delhi Daredevils will play their first game against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali on April 8. The Gambhir led side will lock horns against Virender Sehwag’s rejuvenated Punjab side.
