Trainer’s Appointment At National Cricket Academy Under Scanner

The appointment of a trainer at the  National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru has raised the eyebrows as he has got the questionable job circumstances. According to a report in The Indian Express, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri has already written to the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA), informing that trainer Sohum Desai got the job based on the report which was false.

Johri said the Vinod Rai-panel that Desai did not attend the BCCI’s workshop on sports science or appeared for the examination at the end of it. The test was conducted last year with 23 applicants looking for it. Johri stated that the CoA approved the Desai’s appointment based on information provided by BCCI’s General Manager (Cricket Operation) MV Sridhar. The report, which eventually turned out to be false, claimed that Desai ranked second in the examination.

“I have reported the matter to the CoA and the office-bearers, will await their decision on the issue,” Johri told the news outlet.

“Sohum Desai did not attend the SSM Trainers Workshop and neither did he appear for the exam. I brought this issue up with Dr. Sridhar and he told me that even he was not aware that Sohum had not appeared for the test but was relying on Basu’s recommendation,” Johri told CoA through his letter.

Johri, in his letter, also stated that the test was conducted at the NCA under Team India’s strength and conditioning coach Shankar Basu’s supervision. The report from Indian Express claimed that the BCCI officials, during the September 15 meeting, had also questioned Sridhar about the process of Desai’s appointment as he has been associated with Basu’s fitness centre ‘Primal Patterns.

Meanwhile, Sridhar had previously dismissed any suggestion of foul play in the appointment of the trainer.

“The boy came second in the exam and that’s why he got the job. I don’t think there is any conflict of interest,” Sridhar had told PTI.
