Virat Kohli’s brand value is estimated to be a massive $ 92 million, second only to Bollywood’s leading actor Shahrukh Khan’s at $131 million, according to an October 2016 report published by Duff & Phelps, a global valuation and corporate finance advisory firm.

However, his brand value is expected to be increased to another 20-25% since the report was taken as he was named as the captain of Team India across all formats in January this year.

The 28-year old has also been the most consistent batsman in world cricket as he is in top 2 rankings across all the formats. He has become the first player ever to score four double centuries in four consecutive seasons and has been in the form of his life this season.

“Performance improves the perceived value of a brand ambassador,” said Tuhin Mishra, co-founder and managing director of Baseline Ventures.

“The moment Virat Kohli became captain of ODI and T20, his value would have gone up by 20-25% as is the norm,” Mishra added.

He is also very good as far as the endorsing is concerned as he currently ensorses over 20 brands which include the likes of  Gionee, American Tourister which are the latest additions.

“The track record of a sports player has a direct bearing on his attractiveness as a brand endorser. Given the consistent and unbeatable record of Virat Kohli, companies that want to position themselves as a market winner will definitely look to sign him on as a brand ambassador,” said Aviral Jain, director at Duff & Phelps.

“Like in the case of any product or service brand, a brand ambassador’s value goes up with better performance. Better performance means greater number of eyeballs, greater awareness and increase in acreage in print (coverage),” added Kiran Khalap, co-founder, Chlorophyll Brand and Communications Consultancy.

Virat Kohli has also decided to invest in a number of companies in the recent years like the sports leagues and fashion startup Wrogn to name a few. It is only a matter of time before he could become one of the biggest brand ambassadors in Indian history as he is one of the most bankable players in Team India with his consistent performances.

“We are not far from the day when Kohli could easily be the most expensive brand ambassador in the history of endorsements in India, and justifiably so,” said Anirban Das Blah, founder and chief executive of CAA Kwan.
