The postponement of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 has opened up the huge possibility of the IPL 2020. New Zealand left-arm pacer Trent Boult will take time and talk to the right people before taking any final decision about his participation in the IPL 2020.
IPL 2020 was originally scheduled from 29th March to 24th May 2020. However, due to the coronavirus outbreak, the tournament was postponed for the indefinite period in the middle of the March.
Australia would host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 between 18th October and 15th November 2020, but it has been postponed on last Monday (20th July) due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and IPL Governing Council were just waiting for the official postponement of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 to reschedule the 13th edition of the IPL.
Trent Boult has already heard many rumours about the rescheduling of the IPL 2020. The 30-year-old left-arm pacer will talk to the right people before making any decision to participate in the IPL 2020.
According to New Zealand portal One News, Boult said, “I’ve heard lots of whispers that it is happening in this or that window, that it’s happening in (New Zealand), things seem to be changing almost every week but it’s just one of those things that I will have to let unfold. I’ll talk to the right people and then make that decision on what’s best for me, best for my cricket and obviously what’s best for my young family…there’s obviously a couple of other New Zealanders involved in that tournament — but it’s just going to have to be one of those ‘time will tell’ kind of things.”
Soon after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 postponement, the IPL Governing Council Chairman Brijesh Patel has revealed that the planning of the IPL 2020 is on and the effective decision of the tournament can be taken in the next seven to ten days. He has also hinted to organise the full-fledged IPL in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The IPL 2020 can be organised between late September and early November 2020.
In the IPL 2020, Trent Boult will serve for his new team Mumbai Indians
Trent Boult is now the team member of the defending champions and four-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians (MI). During the last pre-auction transfer window, Delhi Capitals (DC) trade him to the latest IPL champions. Like many cricketers, he also wants to return on the field as soon as possible.
Boult added, “I want to be out there playing and doing the things that I know how to do …but it still looks like it’s going to be a while before crowds are screaming at us and being right behind us but I can’t wait as it’s been a long time between overs — no-one wants to be stuck inside a tent in the middle of winter training.”
After playing 33 IPL matches, Boult has taken 38 wickets. In IPL career, he already served for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH; 2015-2016), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR; 2017) and Delhi Capitals (2018-2019).
