Trevor Bayliss, the head coach of England cricket team has vouched in favour of skipper Alastair Cook and has said that Cook should lead the team till he wants. His comments come after a 3-0 loss against India, with still a Test match to go in the series. Bayliss thinks that Cook has ben given a job and can continue until the time he wants and said, “When you lose, the captain takes a lot of responsibility but he’s got broad shoulders.”
“From my point of view, he has got the job for as long as he wants it. He has brought this group of guys together fantastically well,” Bayliss said.
Bayliss also knows that England does not have any ready to go player who can be designated to the position of a skipper. Though Joe Root is one of the prospects but he is not that much groomed to be asked to lead the team, that too without Alastair Cook in the team. Team India was in the same situation when M.S. Dhoni retired in the year 2014 but the difference was that Kohli had already led the team in Limited overs format but Root hasn’t led the team in any formats of the game. Though he is the future of England cricket but is yet to move one step forwards in this line.
Also, Alastair Cook still has a long way to go as he now plays only on the format of the game and has what it takes to sustain in the game for long, maybe five years more.
