On Friday (13th September), Trinbago Knight Riders created a new record of highest T20 total in a franchise league after surpassing Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) record.
It was the CPL 2019 match between Trinbago Knight Riders and Jamaica Tallawahs at Kingston (Jamaica). Jamaica captain Chris Gayle decided to field first after winning the toss.

Trinbago Knight Riders scored 267/2
Openers Lendl Simmons and Sunil Narine provided a perfect start for Trinbago as they had the 55 runs partnership. After the young Afghanistan left-arm chinaman Zahir Khan bowled Narine (20 runs), Simmons and Colin Munro batted furiously.
Simmons completed his half-century in 32 balls while Munro reached the 50-run mark in 30 balls. After their respective 50s, they became more dangerous with the bat. They had the brilliant 124 runs partnership for the second wicket. Simmons was run out on 86 runs off 42 balls (8 fours and 5 sixes).

After the dismissal of Simmons, Munro and the captain Kieron Pollard maintained the rain of runs. At the end of that innings, they had an unbroken 88-run partnership for the third wicket that helped Trinbago to score 267/2 (20 overs). Simmons remained not out on 96 runs off 50 balls (6 fours and 8 sixes) and Pollard was batting on 45 runs off just 17 balls (4 fours and 3 sixes).

The 267/2 is now the highest T20 score in franchise cricket history or non-international cricket history. IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were the previous record holder with 263/5 (20 overs) against Pune Warriors at Bengaluru on 23rd April 2013. Incidentally, Chris Gayle (175 runs) was the star in that game who played the opposition captain role during the latest record of Trinbago.

Jamaica replied with 226/5
In reply, Jamaica managed to score 226/5 in 20 overs. Openers Chris Gayle and Glenn Phillips had the 88 runs partnership in 7.2 overs. While Gayle scored 39 runs off 24 balls, Phillips continued his batting and scored 62 runs off 32 balls (7 fours and 4 sixes). Phillips completed his 50 runs in just 22 balls.
In the late moment, Javelle Glen (34*) and Ramaal Lewis (37*) also scored some good quick runs but it wasn’t enough for them to chase the mammoth target. Finally, Trinbago side won that match by 41 runs.
After this victory, Trinbago have won all their first four games in the CPL 2019.
