Twiteratti Explodes After BCCI Wishes Anil Kumble on His Birthday in an Insulting Manner

Arguably the greatest match winner of India especially in the longest format of the game, Anil Kumble turned 47 today, and his twitter handle was flooded with birthday wishes from all over the world. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made a blunder and was attacked by cricket supporters for their insulting tweet directed at the former skipper. They wrote, “Here’s wishing former #TeamIndia bowler @anilkumble1074 a very happy birthday.” Kumle replied by thanking the board, “Many thanks for your wishes.”
This tweet without mentioning the past exploits of Kumble didn’t go down well with twitterati, and they blasted BCCI. Kumble remains the leading wicket-taker for India both in Tests and ODI’s and led India during the infamous Test series in Australia in 2007/08. BCCI, to bring normalcy back, deleted that tweet and posted a new one where they referred to Kumble as the former Indian captain. “Here’s wishing a very happy birthday to former #TeamIndia Captain Mr Anil Kumble #Legend #HappyBirthdayJumbo,” the new tweet read.

Kumble was India’s coach for a year before resigning from his post due to his difference in opinion with current skipper Virat Kohli. Following India’s loss at the hands of Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final, Kumble decided to step down from his post and was replaced by Ravi Shastri. There were speculations that Kohli and Kumble had stopped talking to each other from a long time and it was bound to happen.
Meanwhile, Kumble is only one among the two bowlers to bag all ten wickets in Test innings and the feat came against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi way back in 1999. Besides the BCCI, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and his former teammates Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and VVS Laxman also wished the leg-spin legend.
With 956 wickets, he's third in the all-time top international wicket takers list!
