Continuing her good form, Harmanpreet Kaur scored a sensational century against Australia in the second semifinal of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup to propel India to a daunting 281 for 4 in the allotted 42 overs. The Punjab batswoman did not enjoy a good start to the tournament but hit the top form just when it mattered the most. After scoring 60 in the must-win game against New Zealand, the 28-year old made the most of her form by scoring 171 off just 115 balls against the defending champions.
India’s top-order woes continued after Mithali Raj won the toss and decided to bat first. Indian openers Smriti Mandhana and Punam Raut once again failed to give a good start as they departed for single-digit scores to leave the team reeling at 35 for 2. However, in-form Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur steadied the ship with a 66-run partnership before the skipper was clean bowled for 36 by Kirsten Beams. However, Mithali’s departure at a precarious time did not hurt India’s momentum with Kaur taking the onus upon herself to guide the Women In Blue to a daunting total.
The right-handed batswoman scored her half-century off 64 balls but changed the gear thereafter. It was complete carnage thereafter as she scored the next 49 runs off just 26 balls to score her third One-Day International century. She continued taking the Aussie bowlers to cleaners and became only the second Indian woman to cross the 150-run mark in ODIs. Harmanpreet’s sensational 171-runs knock was studded with 20 fours and 7 sixes.
