India could not have asked for a better start to their ODI series against the World Champions, Australia. Electing to bat first on a cloudy morning, India got off to a solid start as Rohit Sharma began the innings in an elegant fashion. However, Shikhar Dhawan continued to look out of sorts after a nightmare of an ODI series against South Africa. Dhawan was soon dismissed for 9 and in walked Virat Kohli who was greeted by a rousing reception.
The two got along beautifully and played some delightful strokes. Rohit was completely effortless while Virat was sheer class. The duo added 207 runs for the second wicket and it was a display of sheer masterclass. Australia looked clueless against the rampant pair and the body language of the Kangaroos was simply ordinary. Kohli was eventually dismissed for 91 off 97 after hitting 9 boundaries and a maximum.
Rohit however carried on and it was just a matter of time before he raced off to his 150. The sixes hit by Sharma were just a treat for the eyes and simply classy. Dhoni too played a cameo as his 12 ball 18 was crucial. India managed a whopping 309 -3 in their fifty overs. Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 171 off 163 delvieries.
Twitter lauded India’s batting effort in the first ODI and below are some of the tweets.
