Twitter reactions: Anil Kumble appointed as India coach 1

The suspense over the next India coach was finally ended when BCCI announced the appointment of Anil Kumble as the next coach of India on Thursday in Dharamsala.  His first assignment will be India’s four-Test tour of West Indies.

As a player, his stature is too high.  He is undoubtedly India’s greatest match-winner with the ball, with 619 Test wickets, to go with 337 in ODIs. A former captain, Kumble is well respected among the Indian cricket fraternity. However, he has no formal coaching experience. Kumble has previously mentored IPL teams Mumbai Indians and RCB.

After advertising for the post, the BCCI received 57 applications for the post and trimmed it down to 21 before handing over the list to “The Cricket Advisory Committee”, comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman , that interviewed the candidates shortlisted by them. Among them were Ravi Shastri, Lalchand Rajput, Pravin Amre, Kumble, Tom Moody, Stuart Law and Andy Moles.

Well the CAC finally selected Anil Kumble and one can say that it was a wise decision as he can mentor the young team very well with his vast experience. While many people on Twitter have welcomed the decision, a few have also expressed surprise over BCCI’s decision to hand him only a one-year contract. Here are some of the reactions from Twitter.

Let us hope that Kumble takes India to newer heights just like he did in his playing days.
