Spin legend Harbhajan Singh today celebrated his 37th birthday. Born in the city of Jalandhar in Punjab, Bhajji was is known as a passionate cricketer who arrived at the cricketing scene with immense talent.

He made his debut against Australia in Bengaluru in 1998 at the age of just 17 with the prodigy’s tag. The initial years of international cricket were tough but it took him very little time to establish himself as the country’s leading off – spinner later on. The biggest turning point of his career came in 2001 when he became the first Indian bowler to register a hat-trick in Test cricket. The importance of this feat amplified as it was achieved during the historic 2001 Kolkata Test against Australia where India also scripted their greatest ‘come from behind’ win.

From then, Harbhajan Singh forged a successful partnership with leg-spinning partner Anil Kumble and carried the responsibilities of the spin bowling duty for India with a great amount of success. He has represented India in 103 Test matches, picking up 417 wickets.

At present, Harbhajan Singh is India’s third highest wicket-taker and the most successful off-spinner in the Test format. He was equally effective in the limited overs format as well where scalped 269 wickets in 236 ODI appearances and 25 wickets in 28 T20Is at an economy of 6.20.

The Indian cricket fraternity was in a cheerful mood today and ‘Bhajju Paa’ was flooded with wishes on Twitter.
Harbhajan’s long-time friends – Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Mohammad Kaif and Gautam Gambhir along with former teammates Shikhar Dhawan, Hardik Pandya, Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma were some of the high profiles names from the Indian team who wished him.

Apart from then, long time mentor Sachin Tendulkar, women’s team skipper Mithali Raj, former BCCI president Anurag Thakur and Sports Minister Vijay Goel and other few Bollywood stars were also among the well-wishers.
