Left-arm chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav has taken the Indian cricket fans as well as Australia by surprise with his wily bowling performance in the lunch session. The 22-year-old, who today became India’s Test player No. 288, made a spectacular debut and snapped 3 for 41 in his 15 over spell before tea session.
His performance led India to make a comeback in the match after being pushed to the wall by Steve Smith and David Warner in the opening session.
As Kapil Dev predicted in the mid-session break where he predicted that India would be back in the contest with four wickets in the post lunch session, and Kuldeep Yadav made sure that the words of Kapil Dev came true.
The first session saw Australia dominate India thoroughly after winning the toss and electing to bat first in the backdrop of the scenic HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala.
Things began well for India as Umesh Yadav’s in-swinger cleaned up Matt Renshaw in the second over. However, the greenish wicket and fast outfield gave the in-form skipper Steve Smith and David Warner a perfect platform to build the innings quickly.
The pair had already added 134 runs for the second wicket before the introduction of Kuldeep brought a good turnaround. However, India clawed back after the Lunch break. After being brought into the attack in the 30th over of the day’ play, the chinaman claimed opener David Warner as his first Test victim in just his fourth over of his career.
A sense of double delight moment spread in the stadium as the entire team celebrated the youngster’s important personal achievement and a crucial breakthrough that brought back the hosts in the contest. The chinaman went on to snap two more wickets – Peter Handscomb and Glen Maxwell while Umesh Yadav dismissed Shaun Marsh to put India in a firm position. Both Handscomb and Maxwell fell in spectacular fashion with a flummoxed look on their face.
