Azhar, a ‘biopic’ on cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, starring Emraan Hashmi in the titular role, is finally released! And Emraan has earned praises for his terrific performance.

The film, however, has been getting mixed reviews, apart from the fact that Emraan’s acting has been appreciated by almost everyone.

Using only the first names as a dissembling tactic whereas referring to actual events and dates and places and times, is a silly approach. Such is the extent of cravenness on display that one of the most gripping cricketing stories of our time, featuring one of the most colourful captains of the Indian cricket team, is turned into a dull, dispirited tale of personal life melodrama.

Azhar, directed by Tony D’Souza, also stars Prachi Desai, Nargis Fakhri and Lara Dutta in the lead roles and revolves around the life and times of (including the fixing scandal) Mohammad Azharuddin.

This was one of the most awaited films and subsequently created a lot of media buzz, particularly after the trailer release. Twitter also looked busy with tweeple’s giving their reviews and verdict about the movie.

Here are some of the contrasting responses to the movie on Twitter.
