Twitter Reacts As PCB Sack Sarfraz Ahmed As Test And T20I Captain
Pakistan Cricket Board has removed Sarfaraz Ahmed from the Test and T20I captain after they were whitewashed 3-0 by Sri Lanka at home in the three-match T20I series. Babar Azam, who is Pakistan’s best batsman, has been given the captaincy reins for the shortest format of the game.
On the other hand, Azhar Ali will take over the baton for the Test matches. However, PCB will decide in some time whether Sarfaraz Ahmed will continue the ODI captaincy. In fact, it was expected that Ahmed will be removed from the captaincy after Pakistan had failed to make it to the semifinals of the ICC World Cup 2019. However, Ahmed’s recent poor form has led to his sacking.
Ahmed’s recent form has led to his sacking.
Meanwhile, Azhar Ali is currently Pakistan’s leading run-scorer in the Test format. Ali had also hung his boots from the ODI version last year.
“There is no bigger honor than to captain the Pakistan national cricket team in the pinnacle format of the game,” Azhar Ali said following the appointment. “I feel humbled, excited and privileged, and with the support of the team, I look forward to justifying the faith that has been entrusted upon me for the World Test Championship.
“Sarfaraz Ahmed has done an excellent job in transforming raw talent into experienced players and I now look forward to inspiring those skillful players in our endeavors to collectively achieve our World Test Championship objectives and beyond.”
On the other hand, Babar Azam will take over the captaincy for the number one side in the shortest format of the game. Azam said that it is an honor for him to lead Pakistan.
“To be named captain of the No.1 ranked side in the world is the biggest thing that has happened to my career to date,” Babar said. “I am ready for this challenge and also willing to learn more in the process. I feel it has been a natural progression for me and I am delighted that the PCB has put faith in my capabilities.”
Pakistan will play the ODI series against the Netherlands next year and thus the decision on ODI captaincy is not taken.

Sarfaraz Ahmed is to be dropped from both the Test and T20I formats due to the drop in his overall form during the past few series #Cricket

Sarfaraz Ahmed's record as T20I captain
T20Is – 37
Won – 29
Lost – 8
Win% – 78.37
Sarfaraz took Pakistan to No1 in T20Is without home matches just like Misbah did in Tests, also won the ODI CT 2017. Now World's No1 T20I team will be lead by World's No1 T20I batsman Babar Azam.

If PCB had to sack him, they should have done it in a respectable way. Would have been better if an opportunity was given to Sarfaraz to announce that he’s stepping down from the role. https://t.co/1iQbyilKrp

Change in captaincy due to Sarfaraz Ahmed’s drop in overall form which has also affected his confidence, says PCB.
“The appointments were confirmed after Sarfaraz Ahmed was left out of both formats due to the drop in his overall form during the past few series.”

PCB CEO asked Sarfaraz Ahmed to step down from ODI/Test/T20 captaincy but Sarfaraz disagreed to do. Instead Sarfaraz said to drop him directly from th team. PCB has told Sarfaraz that if he showed improvement in domestic performance, he'll be brought back in th team.(GEO)#cricket

Maybe captaincy wasn't his cup of tea but I always rated Sarfaraz as a cricketer. Huge pressure now on Babar Azam, already the best batsman, now captain too in limited overs cricket.

Sarfaraz was not irreplaceable as a captain.
His recent performance didn't justify a place in the team and so the right decision has been made.
